Kathy Khommarath

Kathy Khommarath is a staff attorney at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. She was admitted to the California and Federal Bars in December 2012. Her focus is immigration law and immigrants' rights.

She currently serves on the boards of the Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Alliance, the Thai American Bar Association and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She is an active member in the Community Service and Outreach Committee of the APABA.

Kathy obtained her J.D. at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, CA. During law school, she was an intern in the Impact Litigation Unit of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center. She also volunteered regularly with the Immigration and Citizenship Project at the Legal Center. Before her third year of law school, Kathy served as a judicial extern in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She was the President of the Public Interest Law Committee at Southwestern Law School and served on the board of Southwestern's Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and the Southwestern Law School Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

Prior to attending law school, Kathy was the Community Organizer for API Equality-LA, an organization that tirelessly advocates in the Greater Los Angeles API Community for the fair treatment of LGBT people and marriage equality. She also currently serves as a steering committee member of API Equality-LA.

She earned her B.A. in Political Science with a Minor in Asian and Pacific Studies at Loyola Marymount University.
